Boulgou: The Catholic community of Bittou celebrated the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary on Friday, August 15, 2025, with fervor and prayer. The ceremony was presided over by Father Jean ‚¬°tienne Minoungou, parish priest of Saint-Jean-Baptiste Parish in Bittou, who took the opportunity to call for national cohesion and lasting peace in Burkina Faso.
According to Burkina Information Agency, from the early hours, the courtyard of the parish church vibrated to the sounds of singing, the beating of tom-toms, and the cheers of the faithful, dressed for the occasion in traditional outfits and festive clothes. In his homily, Father Minoungou recalled that the Assumption is “a sign of hope for all Christians.” He emphasized the spiritual nature of the feast, stating that “the Mass is the essence of the celebration of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, because it allows us to sing of the wonders God accomplished for her.”
The priest also prayed for good rainfall and divine protection for Burkina Faso, imploring the Lord to grant lasting peace to the nation. On the sidelines of the Mass, the faithful carried the statue of the Virgin Mary through the parish grounds in a procession of song and praise.
