President Saied makes impromptu visit to Tunisian Iron and Steel Company in Menzel Bourguiba


President Kais Saied paid an impromptu visit on Tuesday to the Tunisian Iron and Steel Company “El Fouladh” in Menzel Bourguiba, Bizerte governorate. During the visit, he examined the difficult financial situation facing this state-owned company.

Accompanied by the Governor of Bizerte, Samir Abdelaoui, and the CEO of El Fouladh, Sami Kabtini, President Saied examined possible measures to revive the company, restore it to its former influence and its position within the national economy.

Saied engaged with the workers and addressed their grievances, TAP’s local correspondent reported.

Founded in 1962, the Tunisian Iron and Steel Company “El Fouladh” began production in 1965.

A public limited company under the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mines, its main objective is to produce steel to meet domestic demand for rebar. For over four decades, it has remained the only steel plant in the country with the sole responsibility of producing liquid steel converted into rebar. It has a production capacity of 200
,000 tonnes per year.
