Tunis: The Tunisian Educational Coalition (CET) organized, Thursday, a conference on the theme “Educational Civil Society in Tunisia: Issues and Challenges”. The event was attended by civil society activists, the rapporteur of the Committee of Rights and Freedoms to the Assembly of People’s Representatives, the president of the Arab Institute of Human Rights and a member of the Council of the National Bar Association.
CET President, Kamel Missaoui, indicated that all the parties involved: associations, the education ministry and the government unanimously agreed that the education sector is facing a serious crisis, calling for the need to introduce a set of reforms.
The conference aims to instill a dynamic among civil society activists concerned by educational issues by holding a fruitful debate on current issues and networking so as to create a solid process which would overcome existing challenges and promote the education sector.
President of the Arab Institute of Human Rights Abdelbasset Ben Hassen rei
terated the role of civil society throughout Tunisia’s modern history as a force which has helped upgrade the education system before and after the independence.
He called for increasing civil society’s participation in decision-making amid the challenges to be met in the education sector.
This conference included several themes including “Educational Civil Society in Tunisia: State of Play”, “Networking Between Associations” and “Partnership Between Educational Civil Society and Political Power”.
