Photovoltaic power station to be established in El Metbassta, Kairouan, says UAE Ambassador

A photovoltaic power station will be built in El Metbassta locality, governorate of Kairouan, said UAE Ambassador to Tunisia Eman Al Salami.

The Emirati ambassador told TAP during her visit to Kairouan governorate, on Wednesday, that the Emirati company “Amea Power” has secured the contract to build this station and will start its construction very soon.

She commended “the historical ties between the two countries,” adding that “2024 will be an distinguished year for Tunisian-Emirati relations.”

The photovoltaic station project, which extends over an area of 200 hectares in El Metbassta locality, seeks to diversify energy sources while relying on clean energy and making use of photovoltaic solar energy technologies to support Tunisia in its energy transition programme.

The project’s cost is estimated over $80 million, funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the International Financial Corporation under the World Bank. The station is considered one of the largest stations in Tunisia and will oper
ate with a capacity of 100 megawatts.

During her visit, the ambassador oversaw the aid offered by the Emirati Red Crescent to families who were affected by the cold wave in the delegation of El AlSa. The aid distribution will continue in the coming days in cooperation with the Local Union of Social Solidarity in Kairouan and will benefit nearly 150 families.
