Pakistan eyes scaled-up economic cooperation with Tunisia (ambassador )

Ambassador of Pakistan in Tunis Javed Ahmed Umrani said his country wants to open up opportunities for investment in Tunisia as the volume of trade amounted to US$31.7 million in 2021/22.

This interest is motivated by Tunisia being a gateway to neighbour and African markets, he told CEO of the Export Promotion Centre Mourad ben Hassine on Thursday.

There is keenness to further boost economic cooperation, he further said. The embassy is ready to provide necessary assistance to Tunisian business operators.

“It is also of capital importance to organise Tunisian and Pakistani business missions,” the ambassador was cited as saying in a CEPEX press release.

Ben Hassine and Javed Ahmed Umrani focused on opportunities to increase trade. Scaled-up cooperation with the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan was also debated along with means to iron out difficulties on the way of Tunisian exporting enterprises.

Umrani toured an exhibition held at the seat of the Export Promotion Centre under the slogan “Half a Ce
ntury in the Service of Export” to mark its fiftieth anniversary.

Tunisian exports to Pakistan in the first ten months of 2023 hovered around TND 23.7 million.

Pakistan was Tunisia’s third customer in southern Asian in the first ten months of 2023 with 22% of exports behind India (84.6%) and Bangladesh(12.9%).

Tunisia’ s untapped export potential to Pakistan is estimated at US$4.9 million, CEPEX data show.
