Northern Region Advocacy Group Advocates for Food Security Nutrition.


Ouahigouya: The advocacy group for the North region, composed of the Loroum, Passoré, Zondoma, and Yatenga groups, organized a regional forum on nutrition, food security, and WASH from October 28 to 30 in Ouahigouya. The event, themed “Nutrition in a context of security challenges: contribution of CSOs, challenges and perspectives,” marked the 1st edition of the forum in the city of Naaba Kango.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this forum is an initiative led by the advocacy group of the Northern region, bringing together advocacy groups from the provinces of Loroum, Zondoma, Passoré, and Yatenga. The objective is to advocate with authorities to enhance budgets for nutrition and food security in various development projects and programs.

For 72 hours, members of the advocacy groups from the four provinces animated the city of Ouahigouya with activities such as an awareness caravan on nutrition and food security, a blood donation operation, and a panel followed by debates led by experts in nutrition,
food security, and WASH.

Soumaila Gansomré, president of the Yatenga advocacy group and spokesperson for the region’s advocacy groups, expressed that “the objective of the forum is to advocate with regional, provincial, and communal authorities, as well as all multi-sectoral actors, for actions and achievements in favor of nutrition, food security, and WASH in the Northern region by 2025. We would like to thank the actors for their efforts which made the forum possible and a success.”

Issouf Sawadogo, representing the governor of the Northern region, stated, “We congratulate all the advocacy groups in the region for this initiative. For three days, the members of the advocacy groups, through different activities, demonstrated their vision for the issue of nutrition and food security in the region. We assure them of the support of the authority to achieve the expected results.”
