Guelwongo: The Awoa FC club team from Guelwongo emerged victorious in the first edition of the fraternity tournament organized by the General Union of Students of Guelwongo (UGEEG), defeating Feo Awissi No Way FC by a score of 1-0. The final match, presided over by the High Commissioner of Nahouri Province, Sie Aristide Mohamed Kam, took place in Guelwongo, within the commune of Ziou.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the tournament kicked off on August 30th and featured 12 teams from the municipalities of Ziou, Zecco, Tiebele, and neighboring Ghana. The event aimed to foster social cohesion, fraternity, and civic participation through the sport of football. UGEEG President, Rapha«l Sia, emphasized the importance of promoting these values during the tournament.
Narcisse Sia, the tournament’s sponsor, highlighted the role of sports in fostering social unity and addressing local challenges. He encouraged the youth to engage actively in community development and expressed his commitment to improving living conditions in the region.
In recognition of their victory, Awoa FC received a trophy, 60,000 CFA francs, jerseys, and medals. The runner-up, Feo Awissi No Way FC, was awarded 45,000 CFA francs, jerseys, and medals. Other participating teams also received cash and in-kind rewards.
The event commenced with prayers from Guelwongo’s traditional and religious leaders for the Defense and Security Forces and the Homeland Defense Volunteers. High Commissioner Kam praised the successful organization of the tournament and the involvement of traditional leaders from Ghana, urging the community to uphold values of social cohesion with neighboring regions.
Additionally, students who completed their holiday courses during the tournament were awarded school kits for the upcoming academic year 2025-2026.
