Nador – Nador’s local prison administration has firmly denied recent allegations circulating in some online platforms regarding the deaths of inmates within their facility. These accusations suggested that one detainee’s demise was due to “purported violence” inflicted by prison staff, while another Guinean detainee’s passing was attributed to negligence.

In an official statement, the prison administration clarified that the first reported death concerned a 72-year-old detainee identified as S.B. The individual passed away in a hospital after being urgently admitted while unconscious. It was noted that this particular detainee had been transferred multiple times to external hospitals, the latest transfer occurring on April 24, 2024, due to a significant decline in his health.

Contrary to the allegations of violence, the administration emphasized that the deceased detainee had never been admitted to the prison infirmary, and the subsequent autopsy revealed no signs of physical harm on his body. Thus, the ad
ministration categorically dismissed the accusations of violence as baseless.

Regarding the death of a Guinean detainee, the administration clarified that the incident occurred on October 29, 2023. The individual had been admitted to the provincial hospital of Nador on October 26, 2023, due to intestinal issues. The administration highlighted that the detainee had undergone several medical examinations and transfers to external hospitals, refuting claims of negligence in his care.
