Mouhoun: After more than four decades of continuous presence, the National Police ended its mission in the commune of Safan©, Mouhoun province, on Friday, October 24, 2025, in accordance with the security reorganization process initiated by the authorities. This withdrawal, marked by gratitude and fraternity, took place in an atmosphere of deep emotion, reflecting the bonds of trust forged between the police and the population.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Decree No. 2024-4102/PRES/PM/MDAC/MATM/MEF/MSECU now entrusts the gendarmerie brigades with security coverage of rural communes, including that of Safan©. In application of this decree, a mission led by the Provincial Director of the National Police of Mouhoun, Chief Commissioner Salifou Zall©, stayed on Friday, October 24, 2025, at the Safan© district police station for an official and symbolic visit before the actual departure of the police officers. The objective of this mission was to demonstrate the recognition of the National Police to the administrative, customary, and religious authorities and to the entire population for their constant support.
At all levels, the DPPN expressed its gratitude for the collaboration which enabled the police to carry out their missions in the commune of Safan©. “The departure of the National Police does not mean abandonment. All measures are being taken to ensure continuity of services. Our brothers in arms will take over. The National Police is not fleeing: it is implementing a national decision to better serve,” declared Commissioner Zall©, inviting community leaders to convey this message of reassurance to residents.
The delegation’s tour gave rise to fraternal exchanges filled with emotion and gratitude. The Chief of the Safan© canton, Dr. Sina S©r©, praised the constant professionalism and dedication of the police officers during their mission. He welcomed the National Police’s acquisition of a property in the commune, a symbol of its institutional roots. “The State assesses the officer, but the people assess the quality of the work,” he recalled, expressing his pride in the work accomplished by the police.
On the side of religious denominations, recognition was also unanimous. Mr. Paul Bazi©, representing the pastors, praised the good understanding between the police and the population. Grand Imam Amada Sako implored divine blessings for peace and security, while Father Marc S©ri, representing the parish priest, praised a police force close to the people and attentive to the needs of the Christian community.
The Commander of the Gendarmerie Brigade, Chief Warrant Officer Gaston So, highlighted the quality of the collaboration between the two corps. “Our shared experiences and mutual trust will remain a solid foundation for facing future security challenges together,” he said. The President of the special delegation (PDS) of Safan©, Ali Traor©, also paid a warm tribute to the National Police for its loyalty and efficiency. “True to its sovereign mission of protecting people and property, the National Police is leaving Safan© with honor and professionalism,” he declared.
Deeply moved, the District Commissioner, Lieutenant Esae Kabor©, paid tribute to his colleagues and partners. “Assigned to Safan© in September 2021, I had the privilege of leading a dedicated, loyal, and courageous team. Together, we served the Republic and the people with faith and selflessness,” he said. In Safan©, the National Police leaves behind a legacy of discipline, service, and proximity to citizens. His departure, marked by the recognition of the population, reminds us that security is a collective work, based on solidarity and the continuity of public action.
By retiring with its head held high, the National Police is passing on a legacy of trust and responsibility that partner forces and the population intend to preserve for the common good.
