By category, 99.2% of these insolvencies concern very small enterprises (VSEs), while small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) account for 0.7% and large enterprises (LSEs) 0.1%, the study says.

The increase in insolvencies is partly explained by the low use of the safeguard procedure (barely 27 in 2022), notes Inforisk, adding that Moroccan companies are still “poorly aware” of existing preventive measures.

By city, the Casablanca-Rabat-Tangier axis is involved in almost half of all insolvencies (41%), ahead of Marrakech (7%), Fez (6%) and Agadir (4%), the study reveals, pointing out that 33% of failing companies operate in the trade sector, 21% in real estate, 15% in construction and public works (BTP) and 8% in transport.
