Contrary to the allegations contained in the statement read on behalf of Algeria, the southern provinces are a haven for the exercise of civil, political and economic rights,” said Morocco’s Permanent Representative in Geneva, Ambassador Omar Zniber, at the high-level segment of the 110th session of the International Labour Conference (ILC).
“The exercise of these rights is expressed in seminars, conferences and many international meetings, which are held in this integral part of the Kingdom,” he added.
Contrary to the false and hostile statement about the territorial integrity of Morocco, the diplomat stressed that the international community strongly supports the autonomy initiative, proposed by the Kingdom and promoted in all Security Council resolutions.
Similarly, he added, the southern provinces now host some thirty diplomatic and consular representations that work in the framework of partnership and cooperation focused on economic and social development.
According to Zniber, the authors of this malicious statement should better to learn about the development of academic, medical and engineering institutions, cultural research centers and world-class infrastructure, including tourism.”
The development of the Moroccan Sahara provinces is a stinging denial of the false assertions of enemies of the territorial integrity of Morocco, he went on to say.
“These are realities recognized worldwide,” Zniber observed, adding that “all human rights mechanisms are invited to visit Morocco’s southern provinces as do representatives of the United Nations, MPs, journalists, investors and tourists.
During this meeting, the Moroccan delegation denounced the insignificant provocations of the representative of Algeria, who disrupts the work of the Council, at each session, by giving a free run to his fabrications and ramblings about the Moroccan Sahara issue.
The Moroccan Sahara, Zniber explained, is an example of development at all levels, despite the Algerian leaders, who should be inspired instead of permanently in a hateful logic of denigration against the achievements of Morocco.”
“This development motivates more and more countries to strengthen their cooperation with Morocco in the southern provinces,” he pointed out.
In terms of human rights, “no one, except Algeria of course, does not dispute the extent of the democratic exercise enjoyed by the population of the Moroccan Sahara and which is displayed through the full and voluntary participation in local and national elections,” the diplomat said.
On the other hand, the Moroccan delegation deplored “the opposed situation of the Algerian people with a turnout of around 20% in the last legislative elections. This expresses the general weariness of an electoral comedy, whose deception does not deceive our Algerian brothers, victims of massive violation of their rights, the delegation said.
During this session, the Human Rights Council was questioned on the failures of Algeria to its international commitments, as well as its full responsibility for the atrocities suffered by the populations sequestered in the camps of Tindouf, in addition to the despicable manipulation of a situation that this country has created from scratch and the devolution of its prerogatives to armed separatist militias.
Similarly, the ordeal of thousands of migrants that Algeria abandons at its borders in defiance of all international treaties was strongly denounced during this meeting.
