Moroccan FM Holds Talks with Singaporean Peer

On this occasion, the two ministers welcomed the celebration this year of the 25th anniversary of the estbalishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and reiterated their wishes for peace, stability and prosperity for both countries, said a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad.

The two FMs also stressed the excellent relations between the two countries, reaffirming their willingness to further strengthen the political dialogue and consultation between Rabat and Singapore, and emphasizing the need to intensify cooperation and partnership in the fields of economy, finance and investment.

Bourita seized this opportunity to highlight the investment opportunities offered by Morocco, particularly in the areas of tourism, industry, high technology, logistics, finance and energy.

He also stated that the model followed by Singapore, and which has enabled the economic and financial growth of the City-State, can serve as an example for the implementation of the New Development Model in the Kingdom, as conceptualized and implemented through Royal high instructions.

For his part, Balakrishnan welcomed the role of Morocco in the fight against violent extremism and radicalization and agreed with his Moroccan counterpart to initiate cooperation in this field.

The discussions between the two ministers also focused on several regional issues, including the Maghreb and the Sahel region, referring to the initiatives taken by Morocco for the preservation of peace and security in its immediate vicinity, the statement added.

Balakrishnan paid tribute to the pioreering role played by Morocco under the leadership of His Majesty the King for the promotion of intercultural and interreligious dialogue as well as for the defense of cultural diversity, while praising the efforts undertaken by the Sovereign in his capacity as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee to advance the peace process in the Middle East and preserve the multicultural identity of the Holy City.

The two ministers also highlighted the role that Morocco and Singapore can play in the development of triangular partnership for their respective regions.

On the multilateral level, Bourita and Balakrishnan welcomed their cooperation and mutual support within regional and international organizations.

To this end, Bourita expressed his gratitude to his Singaporean counterpart for the support of his country to the candidacy of the Moroccan parliament to the ASEAN Interparliamentary Assembly (AIPA).

Reiterating his country’s support for the Kingdom’s application for the status of Sectoral Partner (SDP) within the Association of Southeast Asian States (ASEAN), Balakrishnan invited Morocco to get closer to the economic and political groupings being built or enlarged in South Asia and in the Indo-Pacific region.

At the end of this meeting, Bourita renewed the invitation to his counterpart to pay an official visit to Morocco to deepen political dialogue and capitalize on opportunities for cooperation and partnership offered by the emerging economies of both countries, the statement said.
