Responding to a question in the House of Representatives on national economy in the context of climate and geostrategic changes, Akhannouch stressed the importance of the national economy in the context of the climate change.

Akhannouch highlighted HM the King’s rapid and proactive response to the global health crisis, and His concern to use it as an opportunity to launch a new generation of reforms, within the framework of a new development model, which makes the empowerment of citizens a main objective of all policies.

These factors have enabled a rapid recovery of the national economy, as evidenced by the indicators at the end of 2021 and early 2022, said Akhannouch, noting, in this regard, that the non-agricultural gross domestic product (GDP) should maintain its momentum provided by the 2022 Finance Act.

He also added that the current economic indicators confirm the positive trend of the national economy, given the improvement of industrial activities during the first three months of this year, in particular, the sectors of energy, construction and public works (BTP), mining, food processing, textiles and aeronautics.

In addition, investment is experiencing a positive trend, reflected by the increase in imports of capital goods and semi-finished products, respectively 18.5% and 52% at the end of February 2022, compared to the same period a year earlier, Akhannouch noted.

The construction sector has experienced, for its part, an increase in sales of cement of about 5.8%, year-on-year, at the end of February 2022, he said, adding that exports of phosphate derivatives have increased by 96% at the end of February 2022, compared to the first two months of 2021.

Exports of food, textiles, aerospace, electronics and electrical industries and automotive have marked, for their part, increases of 13.8%, 26%, 53%, 23% and 4% respectively.

Regarding domestic demand, the Head of Government reported an improvement in household consumption, thanks to the positive trend in the main income drivers and the measures taken by the government to preserve the purchasing power of Moroccan households.

Remittances from Moroccans living abroad (MRE) have maintained their high level, reaching MAD 13.1 billion at the end of February 2022.
