“This resolution is a blatant interference in the Moroccan justice and an interference in the course of justice about cases whose verdict has not yet been rendered,” said Haddad who was the guest of MAP Forum, held under the theme “Resolution of the European Parliament: Circumvention of all institutional mechanisms of dialogue and coordination and a politicization of matters that fall within the judicial domain”.
Recalling that “the case of journalist Omar Radi, who is accused of rape, is before the Court of Cassation”, this international consultant in social development noted that “the victim in this case is also a journalist, who has not been heard or mentioned in any way”.
Haddad stressed, in this sense, that all cases should be examined in their various aspects, and that both parties should be heard, noting that the European Parliament “cannot claim to defend the rights of women while refusing to do them justice”.
The president of the Moroccan-EU joint parliamentary committee stressed, moreover, that the European parliamentary institution “has appropriated a role that is not its, by assuming the right to question the Moroccan government on human rights and freedom of the press”. However, he stressed, this role belongs rather to the Moroccan parliament, which had already questioned the Executive on human rights, the Rif, press freedom and many other issues.
For Hadad, this is a contradiction for the EP insofar as “we cannot advocate both separation of powers and interference in justice”.
“We are reconsidering the mechanisms and the relationship between the two institutions, until the European Parliament decides on its attitude towards its Moroccan counterpart,” he concluded, recalling the rejection of this resolution by the Moroccan Parliament.
