As part of the acceleration of equality between men and women, as clearly stipulated in the 2011 Constitution, Moroccan women have been able to assume positions of responsibility in the bodies of political parties, including at the level of secretary general or president of the National Council.
This is especially thanks to the Kingdom’s adoption of a set of organic laws to increase the representation of women in the House of Representatives, territorial councils and professional chambers, noted the Minister.
These achievements, she said, have led to significant results, recalling that following the legislative, regional and collective elections of September 8, 2021, the percentage of women’s representation has experienced a qualitative increase in regional councils to reach 35.6% against 4.5% in 2015.
Women’s representativeness in the House of Representatives has also recorded a remarkable evolution, since their number has increased from 81 women, or 20.5% in 2016, to 96 in 2021, or 24.3%, said Hayar.
The government also has six women ministers with important portfolios instead of one woman minister in 2016, she said, adding that the allocation of strategic ministerial portfolios to women in the new government reflects the political will to ensure effective participation of women in political life and decision-making.
The economic empowerment of women is also among the priorities of the Moroccan government to establish the rules of equality between women and men, and make it a lever to strengthen the participation of women in development, noted the minister.
This will draws its importance from the constitutional requirements, which have given great importance to the economic, social and political empowerment of women, as a fundamental determinant of the strengthening of the foundations of the social state.
