Tapoa: Members of the September 30 Movement (M30) in sector 5 of Diapaga took advantage of May 1, International Labor Day, to supply the residents of the Diapaga Detention and Correctional Facility (MACD) with drinking water.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Diapaga detention and correctional facility is facing numerous challenges, including a lack of water and food. The power outage since November has led to the suspension of market gardening, milling, and even livestock farming. It is with this in mind that the men and women of the M30 in sector 5 decided to speak from their hearts.
Kamparlemba Couldiati, president of the sector committee, stated that “the gesture aims not only to bring a smile to the faces of prisoners who are going through a difficult time, but also to salute and magnify the resilience of the Diapaga prison security guards who do a lot with the little they have.”
The director of the Diapaga remand and correctional facility praised the M30 initiative, which he said helps humanize prisons and strengthen the spirit of sharing and solidarity among inmates. He invited people of good will to follow in the footsteps of the M30 so that the population can have a different perspective on prison.
The prisoners’ representative, D. Couldiati, also praised the promoters of the activity which brought a smile back to their faces. It should be recalled that the activity is part of the M30 Citizenship Week, which is marked by several activities, including the cleaning of the Diapaga Medical Center with Surgical Unit (CMA) and the cleaning of places of worship in the city of Diapaga. The M30 members are also planning to organize a community forum for better living together and the promotion of social cohesion.
