Locals of Ben Guerdane commemorate 8th Anniversary of Battle of March 7th

A ceremony commemorating the 8th Anniversary of the “the Battle of March 7” was held, on Thursday, in Ben Guerdane, governorate of Medenine. It was attended by the Minister of the Interior and the National Defence Minister.

The two ministers went to the martyrs’ square, in the Sidi Khlif cemetery, accompanied by the families of the martyrs and wounded of this Battle, where they recited the Fatiha in memory of the martyrs and laid a wreath of flowers at the foot of the memorial plaque.

On March 7, 2016, a terrorist attack was carried out in Ben Guerdane region, southeast of Tunisia and thirty-two kilometers from the Tunisian-Libyan border.

Terrorist groups targeted military barracks as well as two security and National Guard districts in Ben Guerdane.

50 terrorists were killed and 22 martyrs among security and military personnel died.

Seven civilians were also killed during the terrorist attack.

Taking the floor during the commemoration ceremony, National Defence Minister Imed Memmich said that «the Batt
le of Ben Guerdane will remain in the memory all Tunisian citizens.»

«The Battle of Ben Guerdane was a turning point in Tunisia’s war on terror,» he added, recalling that the terrorists were seeking to establish a Daesh emirate in Ben Guerdane region.

Interior Minister, Kamel Feki, stressed the need to launch economic, educational, health and cultural projects in the region and boost local investments.
