Local elections: TUMED kicks off monitoring operation based on gendre approach


Tunisian Mediterranean Centre (TUMED) kicked off monitoring operation of the electoral campaign of female candidates on the basis of the gender approach in 7 governorates, namely Gafsa, Kasserine, Jendouba, Medenine, Tataouine, Siliana and Tozeur.

22 female observers trained in election monitoring and accredited by the Independent High Authority for the Elections (ISIE) have been deployed by TUMED, so as to meet candidates and monitor their election campaigns and social networking activities, reads a TUMED press release.

The monitoring operation of the candidates’ campaign in local and national media will be carried out in partnership with the coalition “the loyalists for democracy and the integrity of the elections,” TUMED added.

Campaigning for the local elections kicked off on December 2 and will run till December 22.

The overall number of candidates stands at 7,205, including 1,028 with disabilities, running in 2,155 constituencies.
