Local councils to be formed eight days after announcement of final results of run-off local elections

Local councils will be set up eight days after the announcement of the final results of the run-off local elections, Najla Abrougui, a member of the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE), said on Wednesday.

The local council will be invited to its first meeting by the local governor, she told TAP on the sidelines of a training session on the completion of the process of setting up the national council of regions and districts in Sousse.

The chairmanship of the local council will go to the candidate with the highest number of votes at its first meeting, which will be held at the headquarters of the delegations. The presidency of the council will then rotate by lot for a period of three months, she pointed out.

With regard to the representation of local councils in the regional councils, Abrougui explained that the ISIE supervises the selection by lot of a representative from each local council to the regional council under its jurisdiction, in the presence of local council members, a notary, the m
edia and civil society organisations.
