‘La Dynamique Féministe’ calls for ‘ immediate release of all female political prisoners’

Tunis: The organisations of “La Dynamique Feministe” on Wednesday announced the launch of a campaign in support of “the immediate release of all female political prisoners.”

At a press conference held on Wednesday at the headquarters of the National Union of Tunisian Journalists (SNJT), representative of the ‘Aswat Nissa’ organisation Sarah Ben Said stated that ‘the July 25 process advocates a mentality of exclusion of women active in public life,’ considering that ‘female political prisoners have suffered a double penalty: first through prosecution, and then through hate campaigns and defamation in the digital space.”

She explained that ‘activists have been prevented from freely expressing their opinions during this period,’ pointing out that the campaign in support of female political prisoners has been launched on July 24 and will run until August 13.

Ben Said called for ‘the need to immediately release female political prisoners’ and ‘to put an end to the unjust prosecution of activists in civil societ
y, the media and political life.’

Civil society activist Fathia Saidi underlined that ‘the current period in Tunisia is marked by an imbalance between all the political and regulatory institutions.’

“The Supreme Council of the Magistracy has been marginalised, the judiciary has been transformed into a function and Decree 54 has been imposed as a reality in order to silence free voices,” she said.

La Dynamique Feministe, which brings together a number of organisations, called on all political, civil, trade union and human rights groups to take part in the support campaign.

It comprises the Association tunisienne des femmes démocrates (ATFD), Aswat Nissa, Association Bayti, Association Femme et Citoyenneté, Association Amal Famille et Enfant, Association Kalam, Association Tawhida Bensheikh and Association Intersection pour les Droits et Libertés.
