Koupéla: Those responsible for places of prostitution receive 12 months suspended prison sentence


Koupéla: Six defendants, including those responsible for places of prostitution, were each sentenced to 12 months in prison and fines ranging from 750,000 CFA francs to 3 million CFA francs, we observed.

Six defendants, including those responsible for places of prostitution, appeared before the bar of the High Court (TGI) of Koupéla, on the morning of Tuesday March 5, 2024. They were responding to the facts of reception of people engaging in prostitution at the interior of houses.

According to the Faso prosecutor at the Koupéla High Court, the accused received girls of foreign nationality for the most part, but also nationals to whom they rented the houses per day at an amount varying between 2000 CFA francs and 3000 F CFA for selling sex.

At the bar, the defendants all admitted, frankly, the facts with which they are accused but say they were unaware that their businesses were illegal.

They also admitted the immorality of their jobs which is linked to sex.

In view of the provisions of article 533-27 of
the penal code, the prosecution requested against them a sentence of 12 months in prison, including 2 months with a firm fine ranging from 750,000 CFA francs to 3 million CFA francs. .

The Court sentenced them to 12 months in prison suspended with a firm fine ranging from 750,000 CFA francs to 3 million CFA francs and legal constraints of 3 months in prison in the event of non-payment of the fines.

The Court also ordered the permanent closure of these places of prostitution.
