IOM Tunisia to hold set of sports and cultural activities in Djerba

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) in Tunisia, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Marsa Association for Cultural Development (ADCMA), is organising a set of sports and cultural activities on December 9-10, 2023, at the Elif Centre and the Erriadh Youth Centre in Djerba.

This initiative falls under the “Sport for Inclusion: JAMIAAN” project, funded by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Foundation for Children and implemented by IOM, according to the organisation press release.

This project aims to improve social cohesion between host communities and migrant communities living in Tunisia, through sporting and psychosocial activities.

By using sport as a vehicle for change (a mechanism for increasing the participation of children and women), the project seeks to promote and facilitate the social inclusion of the target communities in community life, notably in youth centres, focusing on the affective and emotional balance of individuals within
their social environment.

On the first day ( December 9, 2023), 20 beneficiary Tunisian and migrant females will receive an introduction to the design and implementation of social cohesion activities for children, as well as an overview of sports institutions.

This activity was designed to establish an inclusive environment in youth centres, where the targeted participants will play an active role in developing inclusive sports activities for children from the community and from all backgrounds.

On the second day, participants will have the opportunity to take part in a range of inclusive sporting and cultural activities, encouraging encounters and interaction between members of the migrant and Tunisian communities.

This approach aims to encourage the equitable participation of women and children in order to increase their involvement in the community and to promote models of inclusion and cohesion that are beneficial and positive for the well-being of all children in Tunisia from all backgrounds.

These
activities are also intended to enhance social cohesion between populations by offering a diverse range of activities encompassing sport, art and culture.

In the same vein, these activities seek to shed light on the beneficial contributions of these meetings, which, by encouraging the participation of various communities aim to promote a better way of living together, likely to support psychosocial well-being and mental health among the most vulnerable populations, notably women and children.
