International Labour Conference: Zahi affirms adoption of development process to ensure fair distribution of wealth

Social Affairs Minister Malek Zahi said Friday in Geneva, Switzerland that Tunisia had implemented a development process based on good governance and fair distribution of wealth.

That approach is part of a participatory process ensuring the contribution of various stakeholders and promoting decentralisation and local governance while consolidating the role of the regions to boost the economic sector, he underlined.

Taking the floor at the 111th session of the International Labour Conference, Zahi pointed out that speeding up the implementation of a reform programme will help reduce poverty and social and regional disparity as well as promote basic rights.

The creation of communitarian companies decided by f the President of the Republic is a proof that the State is embracing an economic approach with social ends, he highlighted.

The minister said this approach will help provide a decent life for Tunisian citizens across without discrimination. It also seeks to achieve social inclusion, stability and sustainable development while preserving the criteria of decent work, he added.

Zahi also expressed Tunisia’s commitment to establish solid social justice and create a social protection system so as to provide adequate conditions to various social categories. Meanwhile, the minister welcomed the role of the International Labor Conference in promoting dialogue and consultation between the parties concerned.

He called for supporting the Palestinian cause and making further efforts to help Palestinian citizens recover their rights.

The 111th session of the International labor conference is taking place in Geneva from June 5 to 16. Representatives of organisations and governments are attending the conference to discuss a range of issues, including sustainable economies and worker protection.
