Gourma/Preparations for the 2025 Reforestation Campaign: Lieutenant-Colonel Romuald Niki©ma Visits Groves

Gourma: As part of preparations for the 2025 reforestation campaign, the Regional Director of Water and Forests of the East, Lieutenant Colonel Romuald Niki©ma, visited three groves in Fada N’Gourma. Through this outing, he aims to learn lessons to make the upcoming campaign more successful.

According to Burkina Information Agency, re-greening Burkina Faso is one of the visions of the President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traor©. The 2025 reforestation campaign across the national territory is scheduled for June 21, 2025. Lieutenant-Colonel Romuald Niki©ma’s visit to the groves was aimed at learning from past experiences to improve the reforestation effort.

The field trip allowed Lieutenant-Colonel Niki©ma to gather insights on the survival rates of plants and the organization of grove management from past editions of the National Tree Days. The groves belong to the Tin-ba Association, the Gulmu Cultural Association of Earth and Percussion (ACTP/GUL), and the Regional Institute of Administration (IRA) of the East.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Romuald Niki©ma, the survival rate of plants in the Tin-Ba Association and the Eastern IRA groves is 100%, while that of the ACTP/GUL is 90%. He expressed satisfaction with the work carried out by these actors, the ENA graduates, and the associative structures.

The objective of the field visit was to draw lessons to prepare the site for the special reforestation campaign. Lieutenant-Colonel Niki©ma explained that this year’s site will include a medicinal plant grove intended to benefit traditional practitioners and the population of the eastern region.

Regarding the 2025 reforestation campaign, Lieutenant-Colonel Niki©ma stated that his structure is ready for a successful campaign. He noted that steps are underway, sites have been identified, and social mobilization is ongoing to ensure stakeholders understand the new innovations.

Among these innovations are the creation of medicinal plant groves established by the President of Faso and the establishment of five school groves in the East region. The regional director invited everyone to support the patriotic hour policy to green Faso on June 21, 2025, urging each citizen to plant and maintain at least one tree.

To ensure the success of this policy, Lieutenant-Colonel Niki©ma emphasized that his service will provide plants to those who wish to plant trees but lack the means.
