Fada n’gourma: The Governor of the Goulmou region, Ram Joseph Kafando, chaired the opening of a public conference on the values of civics, citizenship, and peace, in the presence of more than a thousand participants from various social strata.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the conference featured three presentations focusing on civic-mindedness and citizenship, patriotic commitment and citizen participation in a context of security and humanitarian crisis, as well as the culture of peace and social cohesion. These presentations were delivered by the human rights advisor and head of the civic promotion department at the Ministry of Justice, Josue Compaore, the mission officer to the Presidency of Faso, Dr. Boalidi Tankoano, and the human rights advisor, Djemilatou Ouedraogo.
Dr. Tankoano emphasized the objective of reminding people that true patriotism involves loving and defending one’s homeland with loyalty and exemplarity, regardless of social status. He urged the population to collaborate sincerely in securing the country. The spokesperson for the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), Lieutenant Colonel Wilfried Tao, supported the initiative, highlighting the central role of the population in the fight against terrorism.
Lieutenant Colonel Tao further noted that security is a collective responsibility, quoting President Thomas Sankara on the shared duty of conscious peoples to defend their homeland. Benjamin Sow, Director General for the Promotion of Citizenship and Peace at the Ministry of Justice, expressed satisfaction with the strong turnout and the quality of the messages shared during the conference.
This public conference is part of a series of activities initiated at the national level to promote civic-mindedness, citizenship, the culture of peace, and social cohesion, in line with the guidelines given by the President of Faso during the official launch on July 24, 2025, in Ouagadougou.
