Ouagadougou: A thousand miles and 2,000 years later, the Catholic faithful of the Saint-André de Saaba parish relived, this Friday, with fervor, the commemoration of the crucifixion and death of Jesus-Christ, noted the AIB.

At the Saint-André de Saaba parish, on the northern outskirts of Ouagadougou, we are far from the real crucifixion scenes that take place every ‘Good Friday’ in the Philippines, but quite close to the sacredness that the commemoration of the death of Jesus Christ for the Catholics of the world.

Very early on Friday, the faithful gathered on the steps of their church to experience a Stations of the Cross perfectly mimed by the parish youth.

During fourteen long stations, the ‘Jesus’ of the day was mistreated, beaten and humiliated from his arrest, through his judgment to his crucifixion.

The ‘Roman soldiers’ did not pull their punches. At the seventh station, their brutality caused ‘Jesus’ to waddle with his cross and eventually collapse a second time.

The shrill and permanent cries of
the women who accompanied their ‘Savior’, mixed with the ‘atrocities’ suffered, moved a large part of the crowd, confusing reality with acting worthy of the great theater schools.

We could see that some were crying while others hid their faces to no longer experience this updated ‘barbarity’.

The priest urged the faithful to relive throughout the day the mystery of the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ.

Above all, he invited them to learn the lessons conveyed, namely, among other things, obedience to God, love and the sacrifices to be made for their neighbors.

After this day of ‘mourning’, Catholics will go through ‘the great silence’ on Saturday and celebrate on Sunday the ‘victory’ of Jesus Christ over death
