GECF Summit – Algiers Declaration: need to ensure stability of global gas market

The 7th summit of heads of state and government of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), held Saturday in the Algerian capital, was sanctioned by the adoption of the «Algiers Declaration». The document sets out the main axes of the natural gas extraction, exploitation and distribution strategy over the next period.

The objective (aim) is to provide regular supply and achieving global market stability in light of geostrategic changes and liquidity challenges.

In an opening statement at the Abdelatif-Rahal International Conference Center (CIC Algiers), President of the Republic Kais Saied said that the people who fought colonization are striving to impose their full sovereignty over their natural resources. This summit is the only way to concretise this will.

Kais Saied, who is taking part in these meetings as a guest of honor, reiterated the need to consolidate Tunisian-Algerian ties, based on the conviction that only unity and the common aspiration for a better future make it possible to meet various c
hallenges.

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune called for the need to take concrete measures to continue the development of gas resources. He highlighted the need to continuously encourage investment in the energy field, boost cooperation in the field of technologies and innovation and develop extraction and marketing techniques.

Tebboune also insisted on strengthening dialogue and cooperation between member countries on the one hand and exporters and importers on the other to ensure gas supplies and the stability of the international market.

Like its partners, Algeria, is conscious that natural gas is a clean energy source which constitutes complementary energy for renewable energy sources, the Algerian president pointed out, highlighting the role of this fossil fuel in achieving sustainable development.
