Ganzourgou/Sanitation: The population mobilized for a gutter cleaning operation in Zorgho


Ouagadougou: The special municipal delegation of Zorgho organized a gutter cleaning operation on Wednesday July 17, 2024, mobilizing the local population and civil society organizations (CSOs) for a day dedicated to sanitation. The President of the special delegation (PDS), Valentin Badolo, kicked off this activity near the large Zorgho market.

From 6 a.m. this morning, members of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), traders, workers from Zorgho town hall and other administration actors gathered to clear the gutters of garbage and the earth that obstructed to facilitate the flow of rainwater.

According to the PDS, Valentin Badolo, this initiative meets the objectives of the Emergency Organization plan (ORSEC) and aims to prevent flooding and improve sanitary conditions by freeing the gutters from accumulated waste.

Mr. Badolo praised the commitment of the population and members of CSOs. He urged local residents to stop throwing garbage into the gutters and to always mobilize around activities of public inte
rest.

‘The gutters in the town of Zorgho were built as part of the December 11 infrastructure. Since their construction, the town hall had not the right to touch them since final acceptance had not been made. It was recently, during a ceremony in Ziniaré marking the inauguration of the infrastructures on December 11, that the town hall has now been given permission to act on these works, hence the organization of this cleaning operation,’ a- he explained.

The special delegation kicked off, leaving CSOs with the responsibility to pursue these initiatives. The PDS promised to establish partnerships with associations for the regular cleaning of gutters and welcomed the partners who support the municipality in the creation of a solid waste management center.

The president of the provincial CSO council, Tilado Yaméogo, applauded the initiative, saying it is essential for the sanitation of the city. He invited everyone living near the gutters to get into the habit of cleaning in front of their homes to avoid clu
ttering these structures. Abdoul Aziz Kafando, member of the association of traditional practitioners ‘Sid la tiim’ of Ganzourgou, encouraged residents to keep their living environments clean to limit the proliferation of mosquitoes, particularly during this period of high prevalence of malaria. ‘This initiative is welcome and we must continue regularly in this direction to prevent flooding,’ he said.

The provincial women’s coordinator of Ganzourgou, Ms. Kayaba Odette Kaboré/Kaboré, also congratulated the special delegation for this initiative, emphasizing its importance in avoiding flooding, fighting mosquitoes and maintaining a clean city.

She called on the population to adopt the habit of regularly cleaning the gutters and to avoid cluttering them, emphasizing the importance of these preventive actions, especially in this season when heavy rains are forecast.

According to this gutter cleaning operation in Zorgho, it demonstrated great community solidarity and a collective desire to maintain a healthy an
d safe environment.
