Burkina: Lieutenant Colonel Paul Henri Sandaogo Damiba, who led Burkina from January to September 2022, is one of around fifteen officers dismissed from the National Armed Forces, according to decrees signed on October 30, 2024, by the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré. These officers face accusations of engaging in intelligence activities with foreign powers and terrorist groups aimed at destabilizing Burkina Faso, as well as committing serious offenses against the dignity of the military.
According to Burkina Information Agency, among those dismissed are the former chief of staff of the national gendarmerie, Lieutenant-Colonel Évrard Somda, and the former commander of the national theatre operations command, Lieutenant-Colonel Yves Didier Bamouni. These dismissals highlight ongoing concerns about subversive actions within the military.
In recent months, competent services have reportedly thwarted attempts to destabilize state institutions. These efforts were allegedly fomented by national officers
with foreign countries’ support, emphasizing the severity of the internal security threats facing Burkina Faso.
