Entry into force of the National Strategy to Combat Extremism and Terrorism (2023-2027)

The National Commission to Combat Terrorism, Wednesday, announced, the entry into force of the updated version of the National Strategy to Combat Extremism and Terrorism (2023-2027) on the occasion of the Commemoration of the 8th Anniversary of the «epic» of Ben Guerdane.

According to a document, a copy of which was received by TAP, the Anti-Terrorism Strategy (2023-2027) establishes a reference framework to strengthen national efforts aimed at achieving stability and security in the country.

The strategy also aims to protect the internal and external interests of the State from terrorist threats.

The strategy seeks to disseminate an enlightened religious culture among citizens based on the principles of moderation and an educational approach focused on the values of dialogue, citizenship and the right to be different.

The Commission pointed out that the strategy, approved by the President of the Republic, was developed according to a participatory approach. Ministries, public structures, representatives
of local authorities and civil society contributed to the development of the strategy while referring to academic studies in this area.

The Strategy relies on local actors (local authorities, civil society, private sector, etc.) to turn its strategic objectives into concrete local priorities.

The National Security Council decided, on February 12, to develop a national strategy to combat extremism and terrorism, which involves all national actors.

This strategy, which is structured around four fundamental pillars, namely prevention, protection, prosecution and finally response, was adopted on November 7, 2016.
