The progress rate of the 2017-2023 Education Facilities Modernisation Programme, which is being overseen by the Education Ministry, has now reached the 68% milestone.

The completion of the construction and equipping work is expected to culminate within the current year, according to a statement from the Education Ministry.

The initiative, which aims to improve the infrastructure of educational institutions, has so far resulted in the creation of 42 facilities. Of these, 38 are already operational and have started admitting students. In addition, maintenance efforts have been extended to 380 educational structures, complemented by the distribution of 20,000 seats in public middle and high schools.

The overall objective of this school programme is to provide an optimal learning environment while alleviating overcrowding in classrooms, thereby enhancing student skills.

Targeting some 180,000 students, the programme continues to expand its beneficiary base.

Co-financed by the Tunisian government in partnership with the European Investment Bank, the German Development Bank and the European Union, the initiative is backed by a substantial fund of pound 220.5 million (714 million Tunisian dinars).
