Pouytenga: Customs seized 27 barrels of cyanide, 1,138 packages of prohibited medicines and 436 cartons of fraudulent cigarettes estimated at over 345 million FCFA in Pouytenga on the night of Thursday, October 30, 2025, the institution’s communications department announced.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this major seizure of pharmaceutical and chemical contraband by the Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DST) of the General Directorate of Customs was made possible thanks to a citizen tip.
The Director General of Customs, Divisional Inspector Yves Kafando, praised the professionalism and determination of all those involved in this achievement. ‘Behind these figures lies a strong message we are sending to all stakeholders in the trade sector: no city, no market, no airstrip will be a haven for fraud,’ he reassured. He also urged his colleagues to be extra vigilant, especially in the current context of resilience and the fight against terrorism.
