At the end of 2021, the Compensation Fund’s expenses amounted to 21.1 billion dirhams, compared to forecasts of 12.5 billion dirhams for the same year, in response to a question on “the situation of the national economy in the light of climate and geostrategic change” at the House of Representatives.

The Government is committed to coordinating with all professionals to stabilize prices and maintain their appropriate and usual level. Consumer products will be subject to control and continuous monitoring. The government will take, for its part, the necessary measures in case of abuse, the Head of Government said.

He also recalled that the government has responded favorably to the claims of professionals in the transport sector, highlighting the financial support they have been given to maintain the stability of transport prices in light of the unprecedented rise in fuel prices worldwide.

Some 180,000 vehicles belonging to different professional categories will benefit from this financial support, Akhannouch explained, adding that other measures will be taken to mitigate the effects of rising commodity prices on national companies, especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs) operating under public procurement.

Since the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and the health crisis, the Government has taken the necessary measures to preserve the citizens’ purchasing power and ensure the supply of basic foodstuffs, despite the international context that has called into question the forecasts of the Finance Act based on a growth rate of 3.2%.

The prices of some products have reached record levels since the beginning of 2022, Akhannouch stated. Those of oil exceeded 133 dollars per barrel while gas prices skyrocketed to 1,090 dollars per metric ton, he said.

The Russian-Ukrainian crisis, the effects of the health crisis and the impact of climate change are all factors that highlight the importance of accelerating the implementation of strategies for energy autonomy and protection of food security, Akhannouch concluded.
