Kaya: A significant civic education lesson unfolded at the Notre-Dame de Kaya school during the traditional collective flag-raising ceremony in the Centre-North region. Presided over by Colonel-Major Z. Blaise Ouédraogo, the event took place on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, with the presence of students and local authorities.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony commenced at 7:30 a.m. with the harmonious chorus of “Ditanyè” as the flag ascended into the sky, symbolizing unity and patriotism. Attendees included students in uniform, teachers, military and paramilitary personnel, and administrative authorities, all gathered to honor the national symbol.
Colonel-Major Ouédraogo emphasized the importance of investing in children’s education to bolster national sovereignty and promote sustainable development. He commended the resilience of teachers in ensuring education rights and encouraged both educators and students to exemplify civic-mindedness in their communities.

al director of education, acknowledged the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) for their crucial support in reopening several schools, much to the satisfaction of students and parents. Father Lambert Sawadogo, diocesan director of Catholic education, noted the symbolic significance of hosting the ceremony at Notre-Dame school, describing it as an indelible lesson for the children.
The event also served to showcase regional achievements. The association “Voisins solidaires du Centre-Nord” was officially recognized under the flag, receiving the Grand Prize for the best civic engagement of the Head of State, awarded on October 16, 2024, in Ouagadougou. This accolade, part of the National Days of Patriotic Engagement and Civic Participation, celebrates contributions to social cohesion and patriotism, marking a historic win for the Centre-North region.
