Dar-es-salaam: The Etalons A’ of Burkina Faso were defeated 2-0 by the Taifa Stars A’ of Tanzania on Saturday at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar-Es-Salaam. This match marked the opening of the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024).
According to Burkina Information Agency, the first goal for Tanzania was scored by A. Sopu in the last seconds of the first half, capitalizing on a penalty opportunity at the 45+3 mark. The second goal came from Mohamed Hussein, who found the back of the net fifteen minutes before the end of the match, securing the win in the 75th minute.
As the tournament progresses, Burkina Faso is set to play its second match against the Central African Republic on August 6. Positioned in Group B, Burkina Faso is competing alongside the Central African Republic, Madagascar, Mauritania, and Tanzania, which is one of the three host countries for this year’s competition.
The 2024 CHAN, originally scheduled for 2024, has been postponed to 2025 and is taking place across three countries: Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
