“Kuwait reiterates its support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative as it constitutes a constructive basis to achieving a mutually acceptable solution between all parties with respect for Morocco’s unity and sovereignty,” underlined the representative of Kuwait during the annual meeting of the UN Committee of 24 (C24), reiterating the unified stance of the Gulf countries regarding the Moroccan Sahara issue.

He also reiterated his country’s support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General, which made it possible to hold two round tables in Geneva, with the participation of Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania and the “polisario”, in accordance with the relevant Security Council resolutions.

While highlighting the “positive spirit” at these two meetings, the representative of Kuwait expressed his country’s support for this momentum triggered by the round tables which “remain the only way to achieve a political and compromise-based solution”.

He also stressed the need for the Personal Envoy of the UN Chief for the Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, to capitalize on the progress made and to relaunch this process.
