Speaking at the annual C24 meeting in New York, the representative of Jordan highlighted Morocco’s commitment to efforts aimed at achieving a final and compromise-based political solution to the Moroccan Sahara issue, through the presentation of the autonomy plan in 2007.

This is a “serious and realistic plan” which takes into account the specificities of the region, as well as Morocco’s full and complete sovereignty over all of its territories, he noted, adding that the autonomy plan is consistent with the Charter of the United Nations.

The diplomat commended the efforts of the UN Secretary-General to advance the political process towards a realistic and lasting solution to this issue, based on the relevant Security Council resolutions.

The Jordanian representative highlighted, before the Committee, the efforts undertaken by Morocco with a view to improving living conditions in the southern provinces and fighting against the Covid-19 pandemic.

He also welcomed the “fraternal, historical and strategic” relations between Morocco and Jordan, adding that the two Kingdoms are linked by continuous cooperation and coordination relations at different levels.

He recalled, in this regard, that his country opened its Consulate General in the city of Laayoune last March.
