Burkina: Trial, building collapse and government decisions, on the cover of the newspapers

The Burkinabè dailies this Thursday comment extensively on the decisions taken the day before, in the Council of Ministers, the collapse of a building in Ouagadougou and the postponement of the trial of the call for fire of the Mogho Naaba Palace.

Under the title “Call for fire from the Mogho Naaba Palace: The trial postponed to June 21”, the national daily Sidwaya informs that the judgment of the file “Call for fire from the Royal Palace of Mogho Naaba”, opened yesterday at the High Court (TGI) of Ouagadougou I, was quickly fired.

He recalls that the said trial involves a dozen defendants made up of journalists and heads of civil society organizations (CSOs).

According to Sidwaya, the prosecution felt that for a manifestation of the truth, all defendants should appear before judges.

In this regard, L’Express du Faso, a private daily published in Bobo-Dioulasso, reports that of the nine people prosecuted in this case, eight appeared at yesterday’s hearing, stating that “only Daouda Belem who had benefited from a provisional release, had not presented himself”.

The dean of Burkinabè private dailies, L’Observateur Paalga, for his part, indicates that Marcel Tankoano, Pascal Zaïda, Abdoul Karim Baguian dit Lota, Désiré Guinko, Lookman Sawadogo, Alain Alain and four others must answer for acts of incitement to dissemination of false news, incitement to the degradation of property and endangering the lives of others.

From another angle, the private daily Today in Faso features: “2 victims in the collapse of a building in the ZACA project in Ouaga: Basta with these deadly + house of cards +! “.

This news item is mentioned by the newspaper Le Pays, in its section ”Revelations” under the title: “ZACA in Ouaga: The collapse of a building kills 2”.

The colleague informs that the tragedy occurred on the night of Tuesday, June 6, 2023 around 11 p.m. and caused four victims, two of whom died.

Sidwaya relates that of the R+5 building which sat majestically on the outskirts of Yennenga Avenue in the Commercial and Administrative Activities Zone (ZACA), there is only a pile of rubble left.

The same daily highlights an important decision taken yesterday Wednesday in the Council of Ministers, by posting: “From now on one vehicle per minister and per president of institution”.

The decision also made the front page of the newspaper Le Quotidien, which mentioned: “Reduction of the life line of the State: From now on, only one vehicle for each minister”.

Speaking of the Council of Ministers, L’Observateur Paalga points out that regarding the fight against COVID-19, the government decided yesterday to “lift mandatory hygiene measures”.

On this subject, the public daily Sidwaya reports that the minister in charge of health, Jean Claude Kargougou explained that the government took this decision in view of the drastic drop in the number of cases and the number of deaths and in connection with the fact that COVID-19 is no longer a public health emergency of international concern.
