Ouagadougou: The ministry in charge of health announced a national vaccination campaign against poliomyelitis from May 10 to 13 for the first round and from June 7 to 10, 2024 for the second round , i.e. 4 days for the 2 passages and an additional day for areas with strong security challenges.

According to the health authorities , this vaccination will concern 5,216,921 children under 5 years old (0 to 59 months) and will be coupled with screening for malnutrition in children aged 6 to 59 months.

According to health authorities , the anti- poliomyelitis vaccination follows the discovery of cases of poliomyelitis in Burkina on March 25, 2024 .

For the health advisor at the Directorate of Prevention through Vaccination, Vouanda Somé , ‘poliomyelitis is an extremely contagious disease . The disease has no curative treatment and the only way to fight this disease is prevention and vaccination.

The health advisor to the directorate of prevention through vaccination, Vouanda Somé , spoke on Monday in Ouagadougo
u during an advocacy workshop with members of the health monitoring unit. This meeting brought together journalists, activists, bloggers, health authorities and technical and financial partners.

According to Mr. Somé , all children are affected by this polio vaccination regardless of the child’s vaccination status.

He specified that the first round of this campaign will be coupled with the screening of malnutrition in children aged 6 to 59 months for early treatment at health facility level.

To achieve the objectives of the campaign, the health advisor invited administrative, political, customary, religious authorities, parents of children and all stakeholders to get involved so that no child escapes vaccination.
