Burkina: the government dissolves the Special Intervention Unit for Water and Forests


Ouagadougou: The Burkinabè government dissolved the Special Intervention Unit for Water and Forests on Wednesday following a mood swing from part of the unit and its refusal to join another site .

On behalf of the Ministry of the Environment, Water and Sanitation, an oral communication was made to the Council on the dissolution of the Special Intervention Unit for Water and Forests following a movement of The mood of part of the unit on February 21 at the General Directorate of Water and Forests.

‘This unit was mandated for a security operation in the Hauts-Bassins region. Instructions were given for it to move to another site in the Central West. The unit rejected the request. She was therefore ordered to return to Ouagadougou. Once in the capital, she took the Director General of Water and Forests hostage, preventing any exit. After much negotiation, the unit was disarmed,’ explained Minister Roger BARO.

For him, the facts observed are very serious and unacceptable according to the general disciplinary r
egulations of Water and Forests. The Council therefore decided to dissolve the Unit. The 165 elements who returned to the movement, said Mr. BARO, will be sanctioned in accordance with the texts.

As a reminder, the special intervention unit for Water and Forests was set up in 2023, then made operational from the second half of the same year with a staff of 250 men.
