Burkina: Students from Marien N’Gouabi high school are committed to citizenship and ecology

Ouagadougou: Students from the Marien N’Gouabi high school in Ouagadougou committed Thursday to promoting the values of citizenship and ecology through the launch of a club within the said establishment.

‘Civility is the dedication and attachment of the citizen to the city. Thus, the responsibility of the student in this citizenship march remains a concern for the authorities of my country, hence our commitment to the promotion of citizenship and ecology at the Marien NGouabi high school through the institution of this club,’ said club President Ousmane Zongo.

To achieve its objectives, the club has put in place a program of activities including the raising of colors at the start of the week, the organization of health and sanitation days in the high school and raising awareness among students about the consequences of strikes.

The Minister in charge of Human Rights, Edasso Rodrigue Bayala, welcomed the creation of this club, which will allow young people to talk to each other.

‘We believe that exalting c
ivic values and patriotism can be a positive asset for the fight against terrorism,’ said Mr. Bayala.

He expressed the hope that ‘this club will serve as a basis for conquering other establishments’.

The principal of the Lazare Sebogo high school welcomed the message conveyed by the club’s slogan which is ‘I don’t throw a bag, I don’t step over a bag, I pick it up’.

He invited the members of this club to embody the ideal of captain Ibrahim Traoré which is the development of patriotism and which necessarily involves that of citizenship.
