The government has set contributions for universal health insurance, ie 5% of gross monthly salary for employees and equivalents, 2% for retirees and 15,000 FCFA and 4,000 FCFA per month, respectively for the self- employed worker and the informal economy worker.

In application of the law relating to the universal health insurance scheme (RAMU) of 2015, the government of Burkina Faso issued a decree to specify the rate of contributions, the distribution methods and the payment deadlines.

The decree which has just been made public but which has been signed since April 4 sets the contributions of employees and equivalents at 5% of the gross monthly salary, of which 2.5% are the responsibility of the employer.

Likewise, the self-employed worker contributes 15,000 FCFA per month and the worker in the informal economy 4,000 FCFA per month.

For ‘Indigent’ people they benefit from free support paid by the State at the rate of 4000 FCFA per person per month.

The retiree, for his part, will contribute 2% of his p
ension.

‘The basis, rates and fixed amounts of social security contributions and other contributions are set in such a way as to guarantee financial balance between, on the one hand, total revenue, and on the other hand, the charges and expenses of benefits and investments , including management fees and costs and the constitution of reserves’, according to article 3 of the decree.

This text is one of the 6 essential decrees adopted by the transitional government in accordance with its commitment to operationalize the Universal Health Insurance Scheme for the benefit of the populations. this commitment is included in the Action Plan for Stabilization and Development (PA-SD) adopted by the government.
