Burkina/School excellence: The Nation recognizes the merit of 101 students and 24 teachers

Ouagadougou, August 31, 2023 (AIB) – The Burkinabè Nation recognized on Thursday the merit of 101 students and 24 teachers from primary, post-primary and secondary education who distinguished themselves during the Primary School Certificate (CEP) exams, of the Brevet d’études du premier cycle (BEPC) and the Baccalaureate for the 2023 session.

The 2023 edition of the School Excellence Day (JES) saw the recognition of 101 students including 32 girls and 24 primary, post-primary and secondary teachers who distinguished themselves during the school exams from the 2023 session to Burkina Faso.

This day under the theme “Excellence in education to promote a Burkinabè society of peace and resilience, in the face of security and humanitarian challenges” was placed under the presidency of the Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

To this end, the winners, from the thirteen regions of Burkina, received, among other things, school kits, computers, motorcycles, scholarships, civil liability insurance and sums of money ranging from 250,000 to 350 thousand FCFA.

At this celebration, students living with disabilities were also honored with special prizes for inclusion, bilingual education and cash prizes.

Twenty-four teachers saw their efforts rewarded with certificates, motorcycles, financial packages and insurance.

The two super teachers, Ms. Kaboré/Konaté Salamata from the Basic Education District (CEB) of Ouaga 10 (Center, Tabtenga B School) and Ms. Rouamba Kirsi Céline from the high school department of Saponé (Center-South) each received an F3 villa and the sum of one million FCFA.

The president of the JES Organizing Committee (OC), Evariste Guibré, focused on the criteria for selecting the best students for the 2023 edition.

Mr. Guibré specified, among other things, that one must be regularly enrolled in a public or private primary, post-primary and secondary establishment at the CEP, BEPC and Baccalaureate and be among the 10 best at the national level.

According to him, candidates must be 13 years old at most for primary school, 18 years old at most on December 31, 2023 with an average of 16/20 for the BEPC.

For the General and Technical Baccalaureate, the president of the CO noted that you must be among the 5 best in your series, 14/20 average and be at most 21 years old.

He indicated that for commercial and industrial CAPS, candidates must be among the top 5 all specialties combined with the average of 14/20 and 21 years old at most.

Mr. Guibré explained that the choice of teachers focused on five criteria which are professional qualities, the academic diploma acquired before and during the career, seniority, honorary distinctions and letters of congratulation and professional performance.

The Minister in charge of National Education, Joseph André Ouédraogo who delivered the speech of the President of the Transition, Captain Ibrahim Traoré congratulated the educational community for the efforts made to complete the 2022-2023 school year.

He praised the merit of education stakeholders and the continuity of administrative, pedagogical and didactic activities in a difficult security and humanitarian context in the country.

Captain Traoré’s representative noted that “Excellence is neither a luxury nor an appendage of the education system, but a categorical imperative, a constant value required of every human being and all Burkinabè people.”

Mr. Ouédraogo urged education stakeholders to always stay the course in order to offer the younger generation quality education.

The Minister in charge of National Education highlighted curriculum reform.

These are English at primary level, civic education at post-primary and secondary levels and the introduction of information and communication technologies (ICT) and national languages and initiation to production. from the start of the 2023-2024 school year.
