Burkina: President Traoré signs a decree to reward whistleblowers of proven acts of corruption


Ouagadougou: The head of state of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, signed a decree yesterday Thursday to facilitate the denunciation of acts of corruption in the public administration and reward the perpetrators if proven, learned AIB today.

Announced on February 21, 2024 in the Council of Ministers, the decree to facilitate the denunciation of acts of corruption and similar offenses as well as bad practices in the administration, was signed on March 14, 2024 by President Ibrahim Traoré.

According to the text, denunciations of acts of corruption and similar acts which must be in good faith, are made to authorized structures with copies to be submitted to the office of the President of Faso by any means.

The denunciation of bad practices is made to the hierarchical superior of the public official at fault, we read in the decree.

» Bad practices mean any breach of professional obligations, any violation of ethical rules committed by a public official on occasion, due to or in the exercise of his duties
. The denunciation is made in writing. It must indicate the facts, possible witnesses, dates and places as well as any other relevant element,’ specifies the decree.

When the facts are proven, the whistleblower benefits from a reward but should be prosecuted in the event of slanderous or abusive naming.

At the start of the year, President Ibrahim Traoré promised a relentless fight against corruption.

On numerous occasions, he has urged public officials to properly perform the tasks for which they are paid and to respect users.
