Ouagadougou: The 2nd edition of the University Football Championship (CDU) was launched on Sunday evening in Ouagadougou, with the participation of 22 Universities, an AIB journalist noted on site.

This 2nd edition is placed under the theme, ‘Football, a factor of Social Cohesion for a United Faso against adversity’. For the president of the organizing committee Cheick Omar Ilboudo, ‘the choice of this theme is not trivial. Burkina Faso, a land of diversity and cultural richness, faces major challenges that call for collective mobilization, a common commitment to peace, mutual understanding and living together.’

For him, ‘football, through its ability to bring people together, transcend divisions and create strong links between individuals, appears to be a powerful vector of social cohesion and national unity’.

He adds that ‘in this context marked by the security crisis, sport in general, and football in particular, have the power to bring people together, break down barriers and strengthen the social fabr
ic. Through the shared passion for this universal game, we can build bridges, promote tolerance and forge unwavering bonds that will unite us in diversity and solidarity. This is what we dream for the young people of Burkina.’

They hope that by coming together around this ‘strong and mobilizing’ theme, we affirm our commitment to a resilient and united Burkina Faso, a country where everyone, whatever their origin, language or religion, their university, finds its place and can contribute to building a common future, made of peace, prosperity and fraternity’.

For sports sponsor Joseph Zagré who had the pleasure of supporting Burkinabè youth in this sporting adventure, ‘sport, and particularly football, has shaped a large part of my life and taught me capital values such as work. teamwork, perseverance and surpassing oneself. Today, as sponsor of this university tournament, I am full of admiration at the commitment and talent of the young athletes who compete with passion and fair play on the fields. Your det
ermination, your sportsmanship and your desire to give the best of yourself are proof of the commitment, resilience and dynamism of Burkinabe youth.’

For the co-sponsor, the former captain of the Stallions Charles Kaboré, ‘you are the future of this country. Persevere in the work.’
