Burkina: More than 200 scholarships for displaced students and 300 scholarships for doctoral students

The Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, Adjima Thiombiaono, announced Thursday in Ouagadougou that more than 200 scholarships have been made available to internally displaced students and 300 scholarships of excellence for doctoral students.

“I am delighted with the support of UEMOA for the granting of more than 200 scholarships to internally displaced students”, declared the minister in charge of education, Adjima Thiombiaono.

According to Adjima Thiombiaono, we must take into account many students affected by the humanitarian crisis due to the displacement of their parents, which negatively impacts their living and study conditions.

“We must now act in solidarity to support and ensure a better future for these ‘internally displaced students'”, he added.

The Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, Adjima Thiombiaono, spoke Thursday in Ouagadougou, on the occasion of the first ordinary session of the Board of Directors of the Ministerial Sector (CASEM) of the year 2023 of his department.

Thiombiaono also noted that 300 excellence scholarships are made available to doctoral students to strengthen the teaching pool.

In addition, the minister in charge of higher education indicated that the Burkinabè government with the support of the World Bank has initiated a major connectivity project at the level of all universities.

According to him, 90% of university sites are interconnected but “there remains the component which consists of the equipment necessary to make this connectivity functional”.

This first Ministerial Sector Board of Directors (CASEM) of the year 2023 of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation is held under the theme: “Higher education and research in the face of humanitarian challenges in Burkina Faso: what answers for internally displaced students?
