Burkina, Mali and Niger now united by a solid “Alliance”

The Head of State of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré and his counterparts from Mali, Colonel Assimi Goïta, and from Niger, General Abdourahamane Tiani, signed this Saturday, September 16, 2023, the Liptako-Gourma charter, establishing the “Alliance of Sahel States (AES)”, the AIB learned.

By this act, Burkina Faso, the Republic of Mali and the Republic of Niger, undertake to establish an architecture of collective defense and mutual assistance.

Thus, the three countries have promised a duty of assistance and relief, individually or collectively, including by armed force, in the event of an attack on the sovereignty and integrity of the territory of one or more many of them.

This assistance must also be effective even when the attack concerns the defense and security forces of one or more member states outside the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).

They also undertake to fight against terrorism in all forms and organized crime in the common space.

The three Nations will also work to prevent, manage and resolve any armed rebellion or other threat affecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of each of the member countries of the Alliance, favoring peaceful and diplomatic and, if necessary, to use force to deal with situations of disruption of peace and stability
