Burkina/football crisis: rebellious clubs suspend their slogan of boycotting FBF activities

Ouagadougou: The spokesperson for the rebellious clubs David Yaméogo announced on Saturday in Ouagadougou during a press conference, a copy of his declaration of which reached the AIB, the suspension of their boycott slogan of the activities of the Burkinabè Football Federation, in the crisis which has shaken football for almost two months.

‘We have decided to suspend our slogan of boycotting the activities of the Burkinabè Football Federation and declare that we mark our availability to resume activities from this day, December 30, 2023,’ declared Koudougou David Yaméogo.

In this crisis where the leaders of the rebellious clubs had requested the resignation of the president of the Burkinabè Football Federation Lazare Banssé ‘for poor management’, the president of the Burkinabè National Olympic Sports Committee Jean Yaméogo had carried out unsuccessful mediation.

According to David Yaméogo, president of Faso athletic club (FAC, D2), ‘we were receptive to the call of the minister in charge of agriculture, C
ommander Sombié Ismaël who, on behalf of the highest authorities of the country, invited us to another level of exchange.

‘The exchange was cordial and our interlocutor presented the vision of the President of Faso relating to the necessary social cohesion in general and to the crisis plaguing football in particular. Our interlocutor asked to see to what extent we could move towards de-escalation in the name of the best interest of the nation while emphasizing the government’s attachment to creating the conditions for the certain development of football players in a climate peaceful and for the consistent consideration of our activities,’ he added.

Around twenty first and second division clubs had the championships suspended for almost two months, to claim money from the state subsidy to finance the championships of the small categories which were late in starting.

The national championships were blocked after the 10th day in D1 and the 5th day in D2. It is therefore possible that the Professional Football
League, organizer of these competitions, will resume its activities in the days to come.
