A team from the Ministry of Energy attended a gold pour in the Orezone Bomboré mine, in the province of Ganzourgou, in accordance with the protocol signed a week ago and which authorizes henceforth the Administration must closely monitor the quantity and quality of gold and precious substances, from casting to packaging.

The mission of the Ministry in charge of Mines, including the minister’s technical advisor, Emmanuel Yaméogo, participated in the pouring of gold according to the protocol signed on April 19 with 11 mining companies.

‘We assisted at all stages until casting,’ declared Mr. Yaméogo quoted by the communications department of the Ministry of Mines. He added that during the casting session, the Bureau of Mines and Geology of Burkina (BUMIGEB) took samples for analysis purposes.

‘This is the step that we were missing, otherwise we already do the weighing-packing step,’ recalled Emmanuel Yaméogo, again according to the communications service of the Ministry of Mines.

The general director of the
Orezone Bomboré mine, Ousseni Derra, said he was satisfied with this transparency game. ‘For Orezone, this is the first casting with the implementation of this protocol. We are very committed to this transparency,’ said Mr. Dierra, who also says he is convinced that other mining companies are also committed to the same dynamic of transparency.

Gold is a major export product that contributes enormously to Burkina Faso’s gross domestic product.

Suspicions of gold fraud involving 32 containers of fine coal have drawn the Burkinabe state and a mining company into an interminable legal conflict which finally resulted in a transaction in 2024.
