Burkina Faso’s Legislative Assembly Refers Judiciary Bills for Further Examination

Ouagadougou: Members of the Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT) of Burkina Faso voted unanimously on Saturday to refer the bills on the organization of the judiciary and the code of criminal procedure to the Committee on General, Institutional Affairs and Human Rights.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the parliamentarians, initially meeting for the adoption of the projects, agreed to return these texts for a new in-depth examination by the competent committee, following a proposal from their president. The President of the Transitional Legislative Assembly, Dr. Ousmane Bougouma, noted that the referral is motivated by the significant number of amendments resulting from discussions between the government and the Committee on General, Institutional Affairs and Human Rights. Additionally, the desire to preserve the coherence of the two texts contributed to this decision.

In line with the regulations in force, when a bill or proposed law is referred to the committee in its entirety, the Conference of Presidents determines, in agreement with the said committee, the date on which the text will be resubmitted to the Transitional Legislative Assembly.
